Frequently asked questions

What is wear it pink day?

wear it pink day is Breast Cancer Now’s flagship fundraising event. We ask people across the UK to hold a pink dress down or dress up day at work, at school or at home. Everyone wears something pink and makes a donation to Breast Cancer Now.

Some people also hold a cake sale, organise a raffle, arrange a pink fancy dress competition or anything else that will help raise more money for breast cancer research. Whatever you do, do it in pink and do it for a price!

You’ll find ideas and materials to help you raise even more money in your fundraising pack and there will soon be lots of ideas and materials available online too.

Who are Breast Cancer Now?

Breast Cancer Now is the UK’s largest breast cancer charity formed by the merger of Breast Cancer Campaign and Breakthrough Breast Cancer. We joined forces in mid 2015 and we’re dedicated to funding research into this devastating disease.

By 2050, we believe everyone who develops breast cancer will live – but only if we all act now.

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid is a brilliant way of increasing the value of your donation at no cost to yourself.

Anyone who is a UK income tax payer can reclaim the basic rate of tax on their donation, which means that for every £1 donated, the charity could receive an extra 25p from HM Revenue & Customs.

So please pop your collection box with your Gift Aid form and remember to encourage everyone who donates to your wear it pink day to tick the Gift Aid column on your Gift Aid form and provide their full name, house number and postcode (home address only please).

If you are the wear it pink day organiser, please note that HMRC do not allow Gift Aid claims of one total amount that you have collected in and added to the form. Please encourage anyone who has donated to your collection to add their details to the Gift Aid form for the individual amount they donated.

What is matched funding?

Many companies will support their employees’ charity of choice by offering to match the funds raised. Please ask your employer as it’s a fantastic way to boost your fundraising efforts and helps Breast Cancer Now fund even more research!

Where do wear it pink donations go?

Breast Cancer Now uses wear it pink donations to fund cutting edge, world-class breast cancer research throughout the UK.

By discovering the causes of the disease, we’ll find ways to prevent it. By improving early detection and diagnosis, we’ll give everyone the best chances of survival. By developing effective new treatments for every type of breast cancer, we’ll make sure more women are treated successfully. And by learning to stop the disease in its tracks and control breast cancer that’s spread to other parts of the body, we’ll stop it taking lives.

If you would like to find out more about our research, please visit our main website.

Can a representative come to our event?

If you would like a Breast Cancer Now representative to come along to speak at your event or accept a donation cheque, you can make an enquiry by emailing wearitpink@breastcancernow.org. Unfortunately, as we are based in London and have limited resources, it is not always possible to attend supporter events. We do have some Local Representatives around the country who may be able to attend on our behalf.

Please do be aware that visits are dependent on availability and can’t be guaranteed. However, we will do our best to arrange it if at all possible.

Can I buy wear it pink merchandise?

We don’t have a shop this year, so unfortunately you can’t purchase any official wear it pink merchandise.

If you need any extra materials for your wear it pink day just send us an email at wearitpink@breastcancernow.org and we’ll be able to help you.

I can’t sign up online, can you send me a fundraising pack overseas?

It is great to hear that you would like to take part in this year’s wear it pink day.

wear it pink raises around £2m each year for Breast Cancer Now to help fund the very best breast cancer research across the UK and Ireland, and not worldwide – as a standard policy we are unable to send our fundraising pack overseas due to cost, which is why you have been unable to sign up with an address that is not in the UK.

If you would still like to support Breast Cancer Now’s wear it pink day knowing this, then we would love your support and you can hold a wear it pink day anytime. Although we cannot send packs abroad you will soon be able to download information and resources e.g. posters and fundraising ideas online at our dedicated website.

If you do decide to fundraise for Breast Cancer Now’s research across the UK and Ireland, you can pay in any money you raise via the website or you can send us a cheque made out to ‘Breast Cancer Now’ and send it to the following address:
