Frequently asked questions

Wear it pink day is Breast Cancer Now’s flagship fundraising event. We ask people across the UK to hold a pink dress down or dress up day at work, at school or in your community. Everyone wears something pink and makes a donation to Breast Cancer Now.

Some people also hold a cake sale, organise a raffle, arrange a pink fancy dress competition or anything else that will help raise more money for breast cancer research. Whatever you do, do it in pink and do it for a price!

You’ll find ideas and materials to help you raise even more money in your fundraising pack and there will soon be lots of ideas and materials available online too.

We’re always adding new ideas and downloadable materials to our website, so keep popping back to see what’s new.

Breast Cancer Now is the UK’s largest breast cancer charity – and we’re dedicated to funding research into this devastating disease.

We believe that if we all act now, by 2050, everyone who develops breast cancer will live.

Gift Aid is a brilliant way of increasing the value of your donation at no cost to yourself.

Anyone who is a UK income tax payer can reclaim the basic rate of tax on their donation, which means that for every £1 donated, the charity could receive an extra 25p from HM Revenue & Customs, giving us a total amount of £1.25.

To qualify for Gift Aid you must be a UK tax payer and pay an amount of Income Tax or Capital Gains Tax each tax year (6 April – 5 April) at least equal to the amount of tax that all the charities you donate to will reclaim on your gifts for that tax year. Other taxes such as VAT and Council Tax do not qualify.

Breast Cancer Now will reclaim 25p of tax on every £1 that you have given.

It doesn’t cost you a penny more and the additional support will help to fund Breast Cancer Now’s vital work; making a difference to the lives of even more people affected by breast cancer.

So please pop your collection box with your Gift Aid form and remember to encourage everyone who donates to your wear it pink day to tick the Gift Aid column on your Gift Aid form and provide their full name, house number and postcode (home address only please).

If you are the wear it pink day organiser, please note that HMRC do not allow Gift Aid claims of one total amount that you have collected in and added to the form. Please encourage anyone who has donated to your collection to add their details to the Gift Aid form for the individual amount they donated.

To find out more about Gift Aid, visit the HMRC website.

You can let us know at any time whether you are eligible for Gift Aid or not by getting in touch with our Supporter Engagement Team:

email at supporterengagement@breastcancernow.org

or by phoning 0333 20 70 300.

Many companies will support their employees’ charity of choice by offering to match the funds raised. Please ask your employer as it’s a fantastic way to boost your fundraising efforts and helps Breast Cancer Now fund even more research!

Breast Cancer Now’s wear it pink helps to fund life-saving breast cancer research across the UK and Ireland.

Right now, we’re funding almost £24 million worth of cutting-edge research projects, supporting nearly 450 of the world’s best researchers. Together, they’re working to discover how to prevent breast cancer, how to detect it earlier and how to treat it effectively at every stage so we can stop the disease taking lives.

If you would like to find out more about our research, please visit our main website.

We don’t have a shop this year, so unfortunately you can’t purchase any official wear it pink merchandise.

If you need any extra materials for your wear it pink day just send us an email at wearitpink@breastcancernow.org and we’ll be able to help you.
